Release of Husarnet 3.0

· 3 min read

We're ready to move to Husarnet 3.0! For most of you there will be no actions needed, but for those who are using our Public API - we're announcing the release with a month of advance notice.

Husarnet 3.0 Release will happen on the 8th of December 2025, during a service window from 16:00 to 20:00 CET (Warsaw/Poland winter time).

We want to make this migration in a safe way, hence the long service window. During this time control plane will be unavailable - meaning that you won't be able to make any changes to your Groups/Networks, join new devices and possibly restart existing devices. Regular operation of already running devices won't be affected for the most part.

Who needs to do something right away?

Public (dashboard) API users need to migrate to the new API endpoints. As this was an enterprise-only offering until now - we're contacting each of the entities directly with detailed procedures.

What about the software on devices?

It can stay the same for now - if you only care about the connectivity - there's a compatibility layer provided (it'll be shut down in roughly a year from now) that will allow older (including the stable version at the moment of writing) Husarnet Daemons to work with the new control plane. Nightly builds will represent the next version of the Daemon and will be released as a stable version after the migration is done.

Should you upgrade to the new version as soon as possible? Ideally yes - one of the main goals of this release was to change the protocol between the Daemons and Dashboard to a one much more reliable and powerful, and you should see the benefits right away.

What will stop working on older versions of the Daemon? All of the management options available via the local CLI - group management and so on. The only option to have these back is to upgrade to the new version of the Daemon/CLI after the migration and mark desired devices as "Account Admins" in the dashboard - this is the new mechanism of authorizing CLI management. Don't worry - despite being more convenient this new auth method is even more secure than the old one.

What will happen to the Beta environment?

Beta environment will be shut down and wiped during the migration window and there will be no possibility to reclaim such devices without re-joining them to new production instance. If you need a constant connectivity - please migrate them back to the prod instance at your earliest convenience before the migration starts.

Preview?

Until the migration starts there's a Beta instance available.
